Guests enjoyed networking, free lunch, and swag bags while getting a behind-the-scenes look at this innovative veterinary facility, which offers walk-in urgent care for pets during after-hours—filling a critical gap for pet parents in Warren, Center Line, Madison Heights, and surrounding areas.

JARS Dedicates Pickleball Courts

On October 8, the Southeast Michigan Chamber and the City of Utica came together at Grant Park to celebrate the grand opening of four brand-new pickleball courts and a resurfaced tennis court—funded entirely by Chamber member JARS Cannabis. The event featured remarks from Mayor Gus Calandrino, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and plenty of networking between Chamber members, city officials, and local residents. Guests also enjoyed free ice cream and had the chance to tour the new courts, which mark a major investment in local recreation. The day was a vibrant example of how community partnerships can make a big impact.

On Saturday, October 4, we made history with our largest ribbon cutting to date at the highly anticipated Grand Opening of LegaSea Aquarium & The Reptarium in Utica! Hosted in partnership with AnimalConUSA and held on World Animal Day, this unforgettable event honored the legacy of Brian Barczyk while introducing Michigan to its newest indoor interactive aquarium and reptile zoo.
The Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce was proud to officially open the doors alongside more than 100 Chamber members in attendance — a powerful show of support from our business community. Gratiot Avenue came alive on Saturday, September 27 for the North Gratiot Cruise 2025, hosted by the North Gratiot Cruise Foundation and the Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce! From the energetic Chesterfield 5K to the stunning Car Show and Parade, the day was packed with community pride, music, food, and fun for the whole family. Thousands came out to enjoy the Craft Fair, Kid Zone, live entertainment, and Cornhole Tournament in the Tailgate Zone — all culminating in the Car Show Awards celebrating the best rides in Macomb County. It was a day to remember, powered by our incredible sponsors, volunteers, and residents who make this hometown tradition shine year after year.

Guests enjoyed valuable networking, a Chamber update, and an outstanding keynote address from Sterling Heights Mayor Michael C. Taylor, who shared insights on the city’s growth and unique model of government.
The event also marked the official taping of our first-ever Chamber Chat Live! episode with Josh Landon and Hunch Free, and featured a generous $20,000 in charitable giving to local organizations. On Saturday, September 20th, the Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce helped welcome El Car Wash to Sterling Heights with a high-energy ribbon cutting and community block party. Held at their brand-new location on Metro Parkway, the event featured free car washes all day, live entertainment, giveaways, and plenty of cheer — courtesy of the Detroit Lions mascot and cheer team! The official ribbon cutting took place at 11:45am and was followed by a full afternoon of celebration.

As the Official Car Wash of the Detroit Lions, El Car Wash made the day extra special by bringing out the Lions cheer squad and Roary the Mascot, much to the delight of attendees.

Berry Foundation, Wound Biologics contributing $5,000 to MCREST, and the Warren Community Foundation—through proceeds from Cruisin’ 53—disbursing $5,000 each to the Warren Housing Commission, UAW Region 1 Veterans, and the Warren Police and Fire Benevolent Fund.

Kicking off with a rifle salute from VFW Post 6250 and remarks by Chamber CEO John Johnson, the event featured a four-player scramble tournament with exciting contests like a $10,000 Hole-in-One, Vegas Hole, and Liquor Putting Challenge. Guests enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided by the club, along with a cocktail networking reception and silent auction featuring items from Vera Bradley, SOZO, XGolf, and Testa Barra. In total, $15,000 was raised for Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, VFW Post 6250, and Neway Works, reinforcing the Chamber’s mission to create lasting community impact.

Developed in partnership with the nonprofit Empowerment and Development Housing Resource Center (EDHRC), founded by Detroit native Faye Baker, the project reflects a shared mission to revitalize communities and expand economic opportunity. The Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce launched its newest affiliate—the Sterling Heights Chamber of Commerce—with a joyful and impactful community celebration: the Utica Puppy Parade, held April 26 at Grant Park. Presented in honor of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month, the event brought together local families, business leaders, and their beloved dogs for an afternoon filled with positive energy, smiles, and tail wags. The parade was led by the Eisenhower High School Marching Band and escorted by Utica’s Fire and Police Departments, following a special plaque dedication at Grant Park by Mayor Gus Calandrino and Councilman Thom Dionne.
At Pioneer Park, attendees enjoyed food trucks, games, giveaways, and a warm on-stage program featuring remarks from Mayor Calandrino, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, and Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson. In a show of continued community commitment, the Chamber proudly disbursed several grants to support local animal rescue organizations.

Utica Mayor Gus Calandrino introduced the Utica Puppy Parade, and CEO John Johnson highlighted MCREST’s Men’s Shelter renovation and the Mt. Clemens School Bond Proposal. The event also celebrated philanthropy, with $20,000 raised for Turning Point and additional donations to local nonprofits.
