The Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce hosted its highly anticipated SMCC Charity Golf Classic on a picture-perfect morning at Golden Hawk Golf Club in Casco, MI, welcoming members, supporters, and sponsors to one of the Chamber’s most cherished annual traditions. Teeing off at 9:00 a.m., the event combined competition, camaraderie, and charitable giving, all in support of veterans groups and local nonprofit organizations.

The day began with a warm welcome at the golf club’s pavilion, where attendees checked in, enjoyed a light continental breakfast, and networked among vendor tables hosted by event sponsors. As the sun broke through the crisp May air, the event formally kicked off with a rifle salute from members of VFW Post 6250, a benefitting organization. Leadership from the Post delivered brief but moving remarks, followed by a powerful performance of the national anthem from a talented young vocalist.

SMCC CEO John Johnson took the stage for opening remarks, using the opportunity to highlight the Chamber’s recent growth, including the exciting launch of the Sterling Heights Chamber of Commerce, a new sub-chamber serving the Sterling Heights area. His words energized the crowd, and moments later, golfers headed out in a gleaming caravan of carts to begin the tournament.

The day featured a four-player scramble format and a variety of specialty contests that kept spirits high and competition lively. Players had the chance to participate in challenges including a Hole-in-One Contest with the opportunity to win $10,000, a new car, or a new boat, as well as Longest Drive, Vegas Hole, Liquor Putting Challenge, and Closest to the Pin competitions. Golfers enjoyed lunch at the turn, and later, a cocktail networking party on the patio and a dinner awards ceremony capped off the evening.

The generosity of Chamber partners was also on display during the silent auction, which featured fantastic gift baskets donated by businesses like Vera Bradley, SOZO, XGolf, and Testa Barra. All food for the day was expertly prepared by Golden Hawk Golf Club, ensuring guests were well-fed and cared for from start to finish.

Most importantly, the event raised $15,000, with 100% of proceeds benefiting Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, VFW Post 6250, and Neway Works.

The SMCC Charity Golf Classic continues to be a shining example of the Chamber’s commitment to giving back and creating lasting impact throughout Southeast Michigan.
