The Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce congratulates Andrew Satterfield on his appointment as the new Chief of Police for the Sterling Heights Police Department.
The Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce congratulates Andrew Satterfield on his appointment as the new Chief of Police for the Sterling Heights Police Department. Satterfield, formerly a captain with the Troy Police Department, brings nearly three decades of law enforcement experience to his new leadership role.
Satterfield’s appointment is effective July 14, 2025, pending confirmation by the Sterling Heights City Council. He succeeds former Chief Dale Dwojakowski, who transitioned to assistant city manager in December 2024.

Satterfield was selected from among three top candidates following a rigorous selection process that included independent candidate testing and interviews with city management and department heads. He was chosen for his proven leadership, commitment to public safety, and strong community values. His vision and experience are expected to guide the Sterling Heights Police Department into its next chapter of excellence and service.

During his 27-year career with the Troy Police Department, Satterfield advanced through the ranks, serving in roles such as patrol officer, detective, background investigator, sniper, honor guard, evidence technician, and command officer. He played a key role in department accreditation, traffic safety improvements, and tactical and emergency response preparedness. Satterfield is also recognized for his efforts to enhance recruitment through multiculturalism, addressing the nationwide challenge of declining interest in policing careers.

"Our new Chief, Andy Satterfield brings decades of high-quality policing experience to the job. He has served at every level of police leadership during his career in Troy and will make a great chief" said Sterling Heights Mayor Mike Taylor. "He is also very civic minded and has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities. I am excited about the direction of our PD!"

The Chamber welcomes Chief Satterfield to Sterling Heights and looks forward to his continued dedication to public safety and community engagement in Southeast Michigan.
