MACOMB COUNTY UPDATE
THURSDAY, JANUARY 30, 2020
Our first luncheon of the new year kicked off during January's last week. Members gathered at Bravado Event Venue in Clinton Township to catch up, eat, learn about important topics in Macomb County from our programmed speakers.
First up was Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, who spoke about progress on long held plans for a new jail which will soon be the subject of a millage question on the ballot in November. He also answered member questions about mental illness and substance abuse statistics of those currently incarcerated.
Macomb County Clerk Fred Miller took the stage where he stressed the bipartisanship of the office (different from his years spent in the legislature) and how it aids in accomplishing goals. He then educated the members about the sheer amount of jury assignments, registrations, etc dealt with on a daily basis and gave remarks about the facilitation of the March 10 primary, particularly absentee ballots.
And lastly, longtime friend of the chamber Macomb County Treasurer Larry Rocca spoke about the Keep Macomb Your Home initiative and payment plans created for 300 people behind on payments who came forward after a successful television ad placement. Remarks were also made by Lisa McClain for Congress.
